Mail.appetizer - Incoming e-mail at a glance.

Have a look at your incoming email without switching to Mail. Mail.appetizer is a plug-in for Apple's Mail and integrates seamlessly. The moment a new message is received, Mail.appetizer displays an onscreen notification window. It gives you a brief summary of the message, so you can determine whether the message requires your immediate attention.

Resizable notification window to fit your desktop.¹
Custom font for the message body.¹
Displays sender's photo signature (from Address Book or .Mac).
Counter showing number of outstanding messages.
Shows mailbox name (optionally¹).

Mail.appetizer is not limited to your inbox. You'll receive notification for every incoming message, not including spam. The notification is shown after rules have been applied.

¹ These options can be accessed from the preferences panel.

Further Development

The next version will include the #1 request: an option to select the mailboxes you want to receive notifications for.

Afterwards the GUI will be redesiged and other requested features will be added.

Disclaimer

Mail.appetizer uses – as all Mail plug-ins do – several of Mail's private internal methods. It has been tested with Mac OS X 10.3 through 10.3.9. Due to interface changes Mail.appetizer is not compatible with Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger". Use it at your own risk.

You can interact with Mail.appetizer now:

Click anywhere in the notification window to dismiss it and to switch to the next message respectively.
Control-click the window to mark the current message read, Shift-Control-click to delete it.
Click on the subject to open the message in Mail.
Click the close button to discard all outstanding notifications.
Control-click the close button to discard just the notifications for the current mailbox.

Preferences

Mail.appetizer does not have its own menu. You'll find the preferences panel in Mail's preferences.
